The brush shaft is entirely coated in black lacquer with gold-traced seal-script Shou (for long life) characters. The top of the shaft and the ferrule are decorated with lotus scroll patterns and fret patterns respectively, while the top end is adorned with Fushou motifs. The bamboo-shoot-shaped tip is made of purple hair, full and robust, characteristic of typical Qianlong-period court brushes.
