The box is made of gilt copper and decorated with cloisonné enamel on a sky-blue ground. The cover is centred with a single lotus blossom surrounded by scrolling lotus tendrils, a motif that continues along the sides of the box. The waisted stand is supported by ruyi-shaped cloud feet, and the bottom of the stand is incised with a ‘Made in the Qianlong period’ mark within a double square frame.
This box, together with a matching lotus-scroll censer and vase, forms part of a three-piece incense set.
