This clock is made of gilt copper for its framework and is decorated with coloured paste stones and transparent enamel, combining the opulence of European decoration with the refinement of Lingnan craftsmanship.

When activated, the mechanism animates a dynamic scene: rotating components form a stylized roundel character Shou (longevity), a pineapple-shaped floral motif spins, water flows within a miniature garden tableau, and small copper figures glide in rhythmic motion to musical accompaniment – creating the illusion of a lively garden landscape. The pineapple decoration was regarded in the West as a typical ‘Chinese element’, while Chinese craftsmen viewed it as a European style. This clock thus stands as a vivid testament to the cultural exchange between China and the West during the Qing dynasty.
