The dish has a flared rim, shallow curved sides, and a circular foot. Both the interior rim and the centre are richly decorated in famille verte enamels. The centre depicts a vibrant and intense ‘flower basket’ motif in rich reds, greens, browns, and blues.
The basket overflows with seasonal blossoms, such as peonies symbolizing wealth, chrysanthemums representing longevity, and lotuses denoting elegance. The flower basket pattern is considered a type of Bogu (antiquities) motif, carrying the auspicious meaning of ‘a basket full of flowers, a hall full of wealth and honour’. This design was also popular on export porcelain at the time.
